 GET INVOLVED

After completing 30 hours of CASA training, volunteers are sworn in as Officers of the Court. Volunteers ensure that each child has a voice in court and that the judge received up-to-date, pertinent information so important decisions may be made regarding the child's educational and health related needs, therapy, visitation, and ultimately permanency.

Serving as a CASA volunteer, you learn about the Juvenile Court and Social Service System, gain satisfaction while serving the community and help to end the cycle of child abuse and neglect. As an advocate, you will review social services, court, educational and medical records, interview parents, foster parents, teachers, relatives and other parties, and meet regularly with the child or sibling group. In addition, you will prepare detailed, objective and fact-based court reports, make recommendations to the judge, and make sure the needs of the child are met.

Requirements for becoming a CASA Volunteer:

  • Sincerely care for the well-being of children

  • Available to attend court hearings

  • Ability to be objective and nonjudgmental

  • Be at least 21 years of age

  • Submit an application

  • Pass a background check, child abuse check and personal interview

  • Complete 30 hours of initial training

  • Commit to at least 1 year of service to the program or until the case is resolved
